With the World Series begining in several days, a number of recreational baseball bettors will suddenly emerge, including a number of people who have never wagered on baseball before. The World Series typically attracts bettors who are either new to the betting scene or have strictly wagered on football and basketball.

These bettors will be looking for any advantages they may find and some of them are likely to hear about umpires and how they can effect overs/unders. The rationale is umpires with large strike zones favor pitchers, while those with small strike zones will favor hitters.

Once the umpire crew is announced and their rotation is determined, some bettors are likely to place a wager for the sole reason of who is calling balls and strikes, while not taking the teams or the pitchers into consideration. Is this wise? Be sure to read Umpires and Their Effect on Baseball Totals in the Baseball Betting section to find out.
