NFL in High Gear Today

Sunday September 7, 2008
With 13 games on the schedule today, you can expect to see NFL bettors coming out of the woodwork. But a word of caution, Week One probably isn't the best time to go overboard. There are a number of teams entering today's action with some questions, which range from new starting quarterbacks (Baltimore, Atlanta, Jets, Green Bay) to wide receiver injuries (Seattle). There is no rule that you you have to make numerous wagers today.

Making matters even more difficult for football bettors is that the only true guidelines to use for opening week is last year's statistics and quite a few of those were accumulated with different players than those who are starting today. I have done the calculations for a number of football betting systems in the forum, but am not going to plunge in right away, especially in games involving the Ravens, Packers, or Falcons).

In the Hilton contest, which we have written about before, the top five consensus plays are the Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, and New Orleans Saints. Not surprisingly, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Houston, and Carolina have been very popular plays with the sports services so far this morning.

Line moves in the NFL games have been somewhat minimal during the week, as a number of sportsbooks posted lines on the game several weeks ago, giving the numbers a chance to flatten out leading into this week. Expect more moves to occur in future weeks.

Today's pro football plays are up at Free Sports Betting Picks located in the Sports Gambling 101 section of the site.
