Double Dose of Monday Madness

Monday September 8, 2008
The sportsbooks had a profitable Sunday, as "can't lose" teams such as the Cincinnati Bengals went down in defeat and a number of teasers fell by the wayside when the Carolina Panthers pulled off the upset of the San Diego Chargers. The bookies are giving players one last opportunity to get even for the week with a pair of Monday Night contests.

As usual, these contests are several of the most difficult games to handicap, with Aaron Rodgers making his first start for the Packers. Rodgers may very well show why the Packers elected to stick with him over Brett Favre, but do you really want to risk much of your hard-earned money to find out if he's the real deal in this game?

Likewise, Denver and Oakland is another game where bettors will be asking a bad team to do something positive, which is always a risky proposition.

Regardless, most of you are going to wager on both games, and there's nothing wrong with that. Just remember to differentiate between your "fun" bets for television games and your "serious" bets where you believe you have a definite advantage. Today's plays are up at Free Sports Betting Picks located in the Sports Gambling 101 section of the site.

I’d hardly call the Bengals a “can’t lose” team and based on the Week 1 performance, I’d avoid betting on them this season, especially since both star WRs are dealing with nagging injuries.

Personally, I stayed completely away from that game, but by looking at numerous posts on the betting forums, as well as the Hilton Contest, most people assumed a win was a given.
