While football has been getting the majority of the attention the past month, many bettors are going to return to baseball today, with the start of the playoffs. The potential for interesting storylines, such as an all Chicago World Series, an all Los Angeles World Series, or Manny vs. the Red Sox in the World Series, will no doubt have interest high.
There are three games on tap, with the Brewers traveling to Philadelphia, the Dodgers at the Cubs, and the Red Sox at the Angels.
In Philadelphia, Cole Hammels is a 2-to-1 favorite over Milwaukee and Yovani Gallardo. There may be a bit of value in taking the Brewers, although it's hard to have the confidence to go against Hammels.
A key game will take place in Chicago, as Ryan Dempster is -155 over Derek Lowe and the Dodgers. Dempster has been solid all season, while Lowe has picked it up down the stretch. The Cubs have the better bullpen, but nagging injuries to several starters make this an imperative game for the Cubs to win.
In Los Angeles, the Angels will look to maintain their dominance of the Red Sox this season. John Lackey is a small favorite over Boston's Jon Lester in a match-up of solid pitchers who don't get enough credit.
