Down to the Wire
There has been no lack of drama in the American League Championship Series, as the Boston Red Sox will try to complete an improbable comeback tonight in Game 7 of the ALCS. The Red Sox will send Jon Lester to the mound, while Tampa counters with Matt Garza in a rematch of Game 3, won by Tampa Bay. Garza allowed just one run in six innings, while Lester was lit up for five runs in 5 2/3 innings.
Still, the bookmakers are expecting plenty of money to come in on Boston and have made the Red Sox a -130 favorite. Part of this is also due to the fact that Boston was -125 to win the playoff series, so essentially the sportsbooks are releasing the same line on the game.
There is probably a bit of value in taking Tampa Bay in the contest, although that doesn't always mean the team receiving value is going to win. Still, for bettors who wagered on the Red Sox to win the series, the opportunity to buy back part of your wager is there if they're interested. While not many people are likely to do so at this point, I'm sure there were plenty of them who would have loved the opportunity to do so when the Rays were up by seven runs in the fifth game.
It's rare that the NFL is overshadowed on a Sunday and if it was any other team besides the Red Sox that probably wouldn't be the case. A lack of marquee match-ups in the NFL today also has something to do with that, as there are no true big showdowns, although there should be several decent games to choose from.
Tony Romo has been down-graded to doubtful, meaning veteran Brad Johnson will likely get the start for Dallas, while Croyle is expected to start for Kansas City. Trent Edwards is slated to start for the Bills, while Carson Palmer is out for the Bengals.
