The marquee pitching match-up tonight will take place in Anaheim, where the Los Angeles Angels host the Seattle Mariners. Scott Kazmir and Felix Hernandez hooked up last week in Seattle, where the Mariners came away with a 3-0 victory. Hernandez pitched eight shutout innings, while Kazmir allowed one earned run in six innings of work.
There is an old baseball system that says to take the losing pitcher as long as he pitched well if the same two pitchers meet again their next start, so the Angels will get a fair amount of play.
John Smoltz and Manny Parra are in a similar situation, as the Brewers took a 4-3 decision as huge underdogs last week in St. Louis. Smoltz was cruising along, allowing one run through five innings, but was touched for three runs in the sixth and Milwaukee held on for the victory.
In other games, we have a fairly rare total of 6.5 in the San Francisco game, while the total of 7.5 in the Angels game is fairly low for an American League tilt.
