While sixth-ranked Caroline Wozniacki was breezing to a likely two-set sweep of Anne Kremer on Wednesday, a number of bets came in on Kremer, which had to be a surprise to bookmakers, as Wozniacki won the first set 7-5 and was leading 3-0 in the second set. Those who wagered on Kremer ended up cashing their tickets, however, as Wozniacki withdrew from the match leading 5-0 in the second set.
The matter will be taken up by the Tennis Integrity Unit, which was established last year to oversee gambling activities and potential match-fixing.
