The Canadian hockey team finds itself in an unexpected situation today, as the heavy pre-Olympic favorites will be playing Germany in an elimination game. The winner will advance to take on Russia on Wednesday.
Martin Brodeur is getting a lot of heat for Canada's loss to the United States, but it was a total team effort, or lack of, that was the real culprit in the loss to the Americans. Brodeur makes a convenient scapegoat, but Scott Niedermeyer, Chris Pronger and others have to shoulder some of the criticism.
Canada will turn to hometown hero Roberto Luongo in goal against Germany, giving him both starts against Canada's two weakest opponents, so naturally, he will post better numbers than Brodeur. Still, it was a move the team needed to make.
