Today marks the first traditional "Getaway Day" in the major leagues, as a number of teams will be in action in the daytime. The theory is that hitters will have a slight advantage in these games, as the ball is easier to see, especially when facing hard-throwing pitchers.
The theory doesn't always pan out, as some hard throwers have actually performed better in the daytime than at night.
A number of teams are trying to put the finishing touches on sweeps today, with most of the sweeping teams being the favorites, with the Dodgers at Pittsburgh the main exception.
The NHL playoff chase has heated up, with many teams jockeying for position, while several teams in the Eastern Conference are fighting it out for the last few playoff spots.
