The NHL playoffs are a different breed, ranging from the time honored traditions of the post-playoff handshakes to playoff beards, and things will get started tonight with five games.
The teams are more evenly matched in the NHL playoffs than they are in most other sports, so the underdogs have a better chance to knock off one of the top teams. How often do No. 1 or No. 2 seeds get knocked out of the NBA playoffs? Not often, but it's not a big surprise to see in the NHL and sometimes is almost expected.
