Creating power ratings at the start of a new college football season isn't a chore that most sports bettors look forward to, but it's one that should be done by any serious bettor. Trends and angles are nice handicapping tools, but power ratings can give you an idea of how accurate the point spread is.

Many sports bettors will simply use Jeff Sagarin's power ratings in USA Today, while others will use different sources or create their own. Here is my set of initial 2011 NCAA Football Power Ratings.
