David G. Schwartz has written the definitive book on the history of gambling with Roll the Bones. The book is an entertaining read and covers the history of gambling from its inception through to the modern day.
While sports betting is not a major topic of the book, it is touched upon briefly, but sports bettors will no doubt be familiar with many of the characters in the book, such as Bugsy Siegal, Nick the Greek and Benny Binion.
