American League Totals Breakdown

If you're betting overs in the American League this year, things haven't gone too well for you up until this point. Through the All-Star break, 585 games had gone over the total in the AL, while 682 games went under the total. Here, we'll look at each team tendencies against the over/under line.

Baltimore 45 overs, 43 unders
The Orioles have been one of the more consistent teams this year, scoring 4.67 runs per game against right-handed pitchers (RHP) and 4.70 against left-handers (LHP). The overs in Baltimore's road games are 26-24 and 19-19 in Baltimore. The Orioles average one run more in home games.

Boston Red Sox 43 overs, 45 unders
Boston is another team that has been a model of consistency this season from a totals standpoint, going 22-22 on the road and playing two more unders than overs at home. The Red Sox are averaging 5.32 runs per game against LHP and 5.05 against RHP. Boston scores 1.4 more runs per game at home than on the road.

Cleveland Indians 44 over, 46 unders
The Cleveland Indians are another team averaging about a run more in home games, but again, there isn't much difference in the over/unders. The Indians are 22-21 overs on the road and 22-25 in home games. The Indians average 4.44 runs against LHP and 4.49 against RHP.

Chicago White Sox 40 overs, 51 unders
The White Sox score roughly 1.75 runs more at home, so it isn't any surprise that they have seen 30 of their 48 road games go under the total. Chicago is 22-21 overs at home. Chicago averages 5.13 runs per game against RHP and 4.52 runs against left-handers.

Detroit Tigers 40 overs, 48 unders
The Tigers have been dismal on the road against RHP (3.18 runs per game) so it isn't any surprise Detroit is just 17-27 overs on the season. The Tigers score 2.5 more runs per game at home, and they're 23-21 on overs in Motown. For the season, Detroit averages 4.96 runs against LHP and 4.67 against RHP.

Kansas City 45 overs, 50 unders
The Royals average just 3.94 runs per game against RHP, so it's no surprise they've seen more games go under the total than over. Kansas City has more unders than over both home and away, but not by much, as they are 24-25 overs when away from KC and 21-25 when at home.

Los Angeles Angels 35 overs, 57 unders
There has been much said about the lack of production by the Angels' outfield and it shows, as the Angels lean heavily to the under, both home and away. Los Angeles is 18-30 on the road and 17-27 at home. The Angels have hit better against RHP, averaging 4.43 runs compared to just 3.91 runs against LHP.

Minnesota Twins 51 overs, 42 unders
The Twins' scoring averages are pretty close at home and on the road, but they play to the over more on the road, where they're 26-19, compared to 25-23 at home. Minnesota averages 4.96 runs against RHP and 4.48 against LHP.

New York Yankess 35 overs, 56 unders
The Yankess are another team that haven't done as well as expected offensively, and that shows in their totals breakdown. The Yanks are 16-28 away and 19-28 at home. New York averages nearly a half run more at home and scores 4.69 runs against RHP and 4.37 against LHP.

Oakland Athletics 35 overs, 51 unders
The A's average fewer runs at home than on the road, but have seen the majority of gmaes go under the total, regardless of location. Oakland is 14-22 on the road and 21-29 at home. Against RHP, the A's average 4.63 runs per game and just 3.73 runs against LHP.

Seattle Mariners 42 overs, 49 unders
If the Seattle pitching staff wasn't so bad, the Mariners would be even more of an under team, as they're averaging just four runs a game. Against right-handers, Seattle scores just 3.84 runs and is averaging 4.20 runs against LHP. Seattle is a few games to the under both home and away.

Tampa Bay Rays[ 40 overs, 53 unders Tampa Bay is in the playoff hunt because of its pitching staff, so it's natural the team leans heavily to the unders. Tampa struggles against left-handers, averaging just 3.64 runs, while scoring 5.05 against RHP. The Rays are even more of an under team at home, with just 19 of 50 games going over the total.

Texas Rangers 51 overs, 40 unders
Even though the oddsmakers continue to post high totals on the Rangers, Texas still manages to go over the majority of time. This is part due to a strong hitting team, but also a result of poor pitching. Surprisingly, the Rangers have really struggled on the road against LHP, scoring just 2.93 runs per game, but are a shade over 6 runs per game against LHP at home. For the season, Texas scores 6.06 runs per game against RHP and 4.55 runs against LHP.

Toronto Blue Jays 39 overs, 51 unders
Toronot has been a strong under team on the road, seeing 28 of 47 games go under the number. The Jays have been dismal against LHP, scoring just 3,27 runs per game, while netting 4.55 runs per game against RHP. Toronto scores roughly .60 runs more per game at home, so it's natural the Jay's are much closer to 50-50 at home (20-23) than as the visitor.
