Hook

By Allen Moody, About.com

Definition: In the sports gambling world, "hook" means a half-point, so that "three and a hook" would be the same as "three-and-a-half" or "3.5" points.
Examples: Robin bet the Celtics -6.5 points, but lost by the hook when Boston won by a score of 110-104.
