Early Season 2008-09 NHL Betting Trends
There's a saying among a number of sports bettors that goes, "If you don't like hockey, you don't like money."
That may be a bit of an overstatement in general, but a number of sports bettors have found hockey to be one of the more profitable betting ventures out there. And the 2008-09 National Hockey League season has been no different.
So far this season, simply betting home favorites has been a solid investment, as home favorites are 91-52 overall and on a 51-16 run entering the games of Nov. 7, 2008.
It's unlikely the trend will continue for any length of time, but is something worth watching in the short-term future.
Home underdogs have been strong on the puck line (receiving 1.5 goals), as they are 28-10, but have won just 12 times straight up, so there are plenty of one-goal games being played.
Another trend worth watching is the number of games going over the total, as the overs are 99-84 on the season, which is 54.1-percent. The overs have gone 25-17 during the past week.
Things tend to even out over the course of any professional sports season, but by being aware of current streaks, bettors can often ride them out a bit, as long as they are aware of the possibility of a sudden reversal.
