2009 Independence Bowl
The 2009 Independence Bowl features two teams with storied histories in Georgia and Texas A & M. Obviously, neither team is at the level it was at during its heyday or they wouldn't be playing here. But the team's problems turned out to be a blessing for bowl organizers, who have one of the best Independence Bowls in quite some time.Georgia is favored by seven points and the total on the game is a heft 66.5
Georgia (7-5) can put the points on the scoreboard, but the problem is so can the opposition. But the same thing could be said of Texas A & M, who sneaked into bowl contention with a 6-6 record.
Aggies quarterback Jerrod Johnson threw for 28 touchdowns and rushed for eight more, while Georgia quarterback threw for 22 touchdowns. Both teams utilize several different running backs, so neither team had a runner that cracked 800 yards, although the Aggies had two with more than 700 yards.
With both offenses capable of putting on a show, the game will be decided by whichever defense steps up. There's no doubt that Georgia is a bit better on defense, but that is negated a bit by the Bulldogs' tendency to turn the ball over, as their -17 was one of the worst in college football.
This is a tough game to call, as you really wouldn't want to count on either defense to make a big stop with the game on the line. Yet the total is a bit too high to jump on the over.
Texas A & M does have one major trend in its favor, which is that 6-6 bowl teams which won three or more games than the previous season are on an 18-7 (72%) ATS run, so we'll grab the points with the Aggies.
