2009 Music City Bowl

The Music City Bowl is an interesting contest, pitting Clemson against Kentucky. Clemson opened as 7-point favorite, but the line is down to 6.5 in many places. The total on the game is 52.5.

This is a rematch of the 2006 Music City Bowl, in which Kentucky pulled the upset as double-digit underdogs. You can be sure that both squads are aware of that game, although it has little bearing on this contest, as many players were still in high school.

Clemson has the two best offensive skill players in the game, with CJ Spiller and quarterback Kyle Parker. The key here is how happy are the Tigers to be playing in this game, as they are clearly the better team.

The Tigers can stop the run, something Kentucky needs to be able to do to remain in this game, and the Wildcats figure to find some tough going on the ground. Kentucky's quarterbacks aren't going to win many games themselves, so Clemson should be able to crowd the line of scrimmage.

Kentucky is a popular player among sports services today, but I'll side with the Tigers to edge out the cover.
