2009 Poinsettia Bowl
After lst night's dismal showing by Oregon State, the Pac-10 gets a chance at redemption, as California takes on another group from Utah, the Utah Utes. The Golden Bears are favored by 3 and the total is 52.It's been an up-and-down season for the Bers, who had high hopes entering the season, but were hammered early on in back-to-back games with Oregon and USC. The Bears appeared to right their ship before falling to Oregon State and then were humiliated in their final game of the year against Washington, although that can partly be excused following their upset win of Stanford the previous week.
For Utah, the season has been about as expected following last year's surprise team. The Utes played everybody except TCU close in their losses, falling to Oregon by seven and dropping a three-point decision to BYU to close out the regular season.
It would be easy to point to Utah on the basis of Cal's blowout losses and their difference in scores against Oregon, but the Bears will be out to make amends for their dismal showing against Washington and Cal's victory over Stanford was more impressive than any Utah win this season.
Tough call, but I'll lean to the boys from Berkeley.
