Betting the 2010 BCS Championship
The odds on which college football team will be crowned as the 2010 BCS champion have been up for a while and there haven't been many changes since they were first posted, at least for the teams being given a respectable chance to win the title game. The expected suspects, such as Alabama, Ohio State and Oklahoma are all near the top of the odds.
Alabama is favored to win the college football title and the odds on the Crimson Tide are in the +400 range, while Ohio State is the consensus second choice and can be found at odds of +600.
There's a reason why it's so difficult to repeat as champions and it's hard to see Alabama being able to pull off the feat once again, especially since there are few easy games in the SEC and the SEC Championship Game is another tough contest.
While it wouldn't be a shock to see the Crimson Tide hoisting the championship trophy on Jan. 10, 2011, we'll look elsewhere for a wager.
Ohio State will be tough to slow down in 2010 and appear more than capable of advancing to the BCS title game. At odds of 5.5-to-1, the Buckeyes look even better, so we'll definitely have something on the Buckeyes to win it all.
Florida and Oklahoma are both receiving plenty of respect by the bookmakers and bettors, as both teams are in the 12-to-1 range, but Florida must replace Tebow, which won't be an easy chore, and it's hard to believe Oklahoma can go from five losses to zero over the course of one year.
Those looking for a sleeper team should look no farther than Boise State, as this could finally be the year the Broncos get their shot at the big time. Boise State begins the season ranked No. 5 in the USA Today poll and given their schedule are likely to repeat last year's undefeated record.
The Broncos have only a couple of difficult games, including the season opener against Virginia Tech, but with a bye the week following the encounter with the Hokies, expect Boise to have spent virtually the entire practice season gearing up for that one contest.
Oregon State and Fresno State are both home games, leaving the Thanksgiving weekend showdown at Nevada as the team's next-toughest contest.
Boise State is listed at +900 at Intertops and will need a bit of help reaching the title game, but if they do their part, could very well find themselves playing in the final college football game of the season.
For betting purposes, we'll put three units on Ohio State +550 to win the BCS Championship with a 1.5-unit play on Boise State at +900 and hope for the best.
