2010 NFL Season Win Wagers

2010 NFL Season Win Wagers

Wagering on the number of wins an NFL team gets during the upcoming season is one of the more popular futures bets in the NFL. The concept is simple enough, as the sportsbooks will post a number and bettors can wager the particular team wins more games than the posted number or fewer games than the posted number.

Odds will vary from sportsbook to sportsbook, so it's important to shop around for the best line.

On occasion, the number of wins will be different by .5 games at various sportsbooks, but for the most part, the posted numbers will be the same, as a sportsbook offering a vastly different number than the other sportsbooks would likely be flooded with bets in one particular direction, which is something the books like to avoid if possible.

Instead of running down the odds for all teams as we have done in the past, we'll just pinpoint several potential wagers. Anyone wanting to see a list of all the win totals can simply go to any online sportsbook and see what they are for themselves.

2010 Season Win Wagers

For our first wager, we'll take the under with the Detroit Lions. Detroit is one of the teams where different books have the half-game difference in the win total. At Sports Interaction, the total is 5.5, but you have to lay -200 if you're taking the under.

The Greek also has the number at 5.5, but you only have to lay -155 to take the under, while Intertops will allow you to wager under 5 for even money.

While Detroit could win five games, it's difficult to see them winning six, so we'll go ahead and lay the -155 at the Greek and take under 5.5.

Green Bay is a bit of an oddity in that Packers are favored to win the NFC North even with Favre's return and are one of the favorites to come out of the NFC for the Super Bowl, but the team's win total is just 9.5.

At the Greek, for example, Green Bay is the favorite to win the NFC, but teams like Dallas and New Orleans have win totals of 10.5. Green Bay would figure to be at least at 10 given their odds to make noise in the postseason.

I'll go out on a limb and take Green Bay under 9.5 at odds of +140 at SIA or the Greek.

Carolina is another team with the half-game difference at our three sportsbooks. The Greek and Sports Interaction both have the Panthers' win total at 7.5, while Intertops has it at 7.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Panthers go 8-8 this year, so I'll take over 7.0 wins at Intertops at odds of +110.

Lastly, the St. Louis Rams are another team with a difference of one-half game and that's big in this case, as bettors would have to lay -270 to wager under 5.5 wins, but can lay a more comfortable -150 and take under 5 at Intertops.

The Rams should win more games than they did last year, which isn't really saying much as the team was a dismal 1-15. Three to four wins should be the upper limit for this team that is in the midst of a complete rebuilding job.
