Review of 4th and Fixed by Reggie Rivers

I'll have to admit to being pleasantly surprised by this book. I've read enough books from former players to know that writing generally isn't a strong suit, but Rivers proved to be an exception to the rule with this novel.

The Plot

4th and Fixed is naturally about the fixing of professional football games and Rivers is certainly qualified to write about the inner workings of a football team.

The book is about the San Antonio Stallions and their rather shady road to the Super Bowl as orchestrated by Michael Gasca, a mod-affiliated fixer, and his partner in crime, Roscoe Evans.

The pair must deal with NFL security, along with Trevor Deale, the team's quarterback, among others.

Summary

There is plenty of humor in the book and sports bettors will no doubt find the premise of the book enticing, if not a little worrisome, as Rivers paints a picture that makes one wonder about the possibilities.

There are enough plot twists and unforgettable characters to make this a solid addition to your reading library.
