There is a full slate of baseball games today, along with five WNBA games to keep bettors busy. In baseball, the top match-up is Detroit at the Yankees, where New York will try to complete the sweep.

The most popular plays with the betting public so far today have been San Francisco, St. Louis, Los Angeles Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies. Each team has been getting 80 percent or more of the wagers.

We've touched on umpires a bit the last few days, so we'll continue with that today. There are under umpires working the plate in Florida, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and San Diego, while over umpires will be working in Toronto and the Yankee game.

Another aspect of umpires that hasn't been touched on, but may bear closer study is how the home teams do with certain umpires behind the plate. It could be that certain umpires are more likely to give the home team the benefit of the close calls, while others may tend to side with the visitors.

From that perspective, there are home umpires working in St. Louis, San Diego, Atlanta, Chicago (White Sox) and Texas. Charlie Relaford, working behind the plate in Pittsburgh, has been kind to the visitors, who have won 12 of the 18 games he has called.

We'll track the home/away umpire trend for a bit to see if it deserves additional study.

Today's play is up at Free Sports Betting Picks located in the Sports Gambling 101 section of the site.
