All eyes are going to be on Chicago's Mark Buehrle tonight as he takes the mound for the first time since his perfect game. The oddsmakers have a nice gift in store for those who want to ride the hot pitcher, as the Twins are -125 favorites over the White Sox, making Buehrle a great bet, right? As Lee Corso likes to say, "Not so fast my friend."
The old sports betting adage of "if it looks too good to be true it probably is" comes into play here, as the Sox look too good to be true, especially with Minnesota's Baker limping into the game with a 5.04 ERA.
While I'm not about to back the Twins, the White Sox won't be getting any of my money either, as Buehrle is ripe for a letdown. If you like the Sox, by all means take them, but think twice before unloading on them.
A pair of hot pitchers meet in Arizona, where the Phillies' Cole Hamels has seen the Phillies win his last four starts, while the Diamondbacks have won the last five times Dan Haren has taken the mound. Just the opposite will take place in Baltimore, where the Royals have lost Bannister's last three starts and the O's have dropped six straight with Berken on the hill.
Oakland won Vin Mazzaro's first two starts, but have lost his last eight.
On the umpire front, Brian Gorman (Cubs) and Andy Fletcher (Rangers) have both been solid under umpires this season, while Jeff Nelson (Angels) has a slight lean to the over.
The Mets, Arizona, Giants and Red Sox have umpires who have shown a tendency to see the home teams win working behind the plate, while just Hunter Wendelstedt (Tampa) has seen the road team win more often than the home team.
Today's play is up at Free Sports Betting Picks located in the Sports Gambling 101 section of the site.
