2008 National League All-Star Break Breakdown

By , About.com Guide

New York Mets 51-44 -$304
The New York Mets have been making up for a slow start and are now showing a slight profit (+114) at home, where they're 28-18. New York is generally a solid favorite, which is the major reason the team doesn't show a larger profit in home games. The Mets have fared better against left-handed pitchers (19-11, +184) than against right-handers on the year.

Philadelphia Phillies 51-44, -$172
The Phillies are on of the rare teams that has fared better on the road than at home, at least from a betting standpoint. Philly is +326 in away games and -$497 at home. The Phillies hit left-handers better and are 20-13 (+334) against southpaws on the season.

Pittsburgh Pirates 43-50, -$295
The Pittsburgh Pirates are another team that has been a good bet at home, but pretty poor on the road. Pittsburgh is 29-22 (+621) when they're the good guys, but just 14-28 (-$906) as the away crew. The Pirates have scored more runs against left-handers, but have shown a small profit when facing right-handed pitchers.

San Diego Padres 37-58, -$2,213
If you're looking for the biggest money burning team so far in the 2008 season, look no farther than San Diego, as the Padres have been horrible in every category. San Diego is scoring 3.70 runs per game, which isn't going to get the job done. San Diego has struggled against right-handed pitchers on the road (8-17, -$786) more than anywhere else, scoring just 3.32 runs per game.

San Francisco 40-54, -$1,034
The Giants have been a profitable team against right-handed pitchers on the road (17-16, +408), but have lost money everywhere else. The team's biggest obstacle has been facing right-handers at home, where they are a dismal 11-20 (-$939). San Francisco scored an equal amount of runs against right-handers and left-handers.

St. Louis Cardinals 53-43, +942
The St. Louis Cardinals have been true road warriors this season, going 27-22 (+875) away from home and are a bit above break-even at home. The Cardinals average .60 more runs per game against right-handed pitchers and score more than a run more in road games than they do at home.

Washington Nationals 35-60, -$1,602
The Nationals are generally large underdogs, but haven't won nearly enough to take advantage of the generous odds they receive. Washington has been equally bad home or away, but have shown a slight profit as the road team when facing left-handed starters (7-8, +185). The Nationals are scoring just 3.27 runs against right-handed pitchers, including a dismal 3.0 runs against righties at home.
