Super Bowl 44 Halftime Proposition Bets

Super Bowl proposition bets are for two types of bettors. Those who posses astute football minds may be able to decipher through all of the different wagers and come up some wagers that carry a positive expected value, which means that over the long run those bets would show a profit. They may not show a profit every year, but over the long haul they can be expected to be in the black.

The other type of bettor who tends to place proposition bets are merely those bettors looking to add a little more excitement to the game and have themselves some fun. These are the bettors who enjoy betting on the coin toss, which team will get the ball first, whether Tim Tebow's Focus on the Family commercial will air (which is a real bet by the way) and which commercial will draw the highest approval ratings (another real bet by the way).

There's nothing wrong with having a bit of fun with the game or even with the halftime show, which bettors will have the opportunity to do. There are some proposition bets that will be based on The Who's halftime performance.

Sports Interaction was the first sportsbook to come out with halftime wagers this year, which involved the first song the group would play. The opening odds were:

Baba O' Riley +225
Wont Get Fooled Again +225
My Generation +275
Substitute +500
I Can See For Miles +700
The Seeker +700
I Cant Explain +750
Anyway Anyhow Anywhere +800
Pinball Wizard +800
Ring of Fire +1000
Who Are You +1200
Eminence Front +1400
Magic Bus +1600
You Better You Bet +1600
5.15 +2000
Im A Boy +2500
Love Reign Oer Me +2500
Pictures Of Lily +3300
See Me Feel Me +3300
Boris The Spider +15000
Happy Jack +15000

Plenty of money came in on Baba O' Riley, which many people still refer to as Teenage Wastelands, after Pete Townshend mentioned the song first to Billboard when he told the magazine the group would be performing a bit of different tunes. Baba O' Riley went to -139 and it's likely the wager will get taken down.

Bodog also got into the act and has put up several prop bets that won't be pulled, as they are a bit more difficult to predict. They are:

Will a member of The Who smash a guitar on stage during the half time show?
Yes +135
No -165

How many times will Pete Townshend do his legendary windmill move?
(Windmill move must be a full 360 degree revolution and be shown on TV to be counted for this wager.)
Over 5 -115
Under 5 -115

If any member of The Who smashes their guitar what does the guitar hit first?
(For fan to be the winner it must be a human fan. If he hits two at the same time then all wagers are no action.)
Floor 2/5
Spreaker 11/4
Microphone 13/4
Fan 500/1
Drummer 500/1

If Pete Townshend were a few years younger the guitar smashing would probably be a good wager, but I'm not sure how much damage a 64-year-old guitar player wants to do at the Super Bowl.

The halftime show should be a good one and if you want to make it a bit more exciting with a wager or two, go right ahead and do so.
