NFL Season Win Totals - AFC

When it comes to betting NFL futures one of the most popular bets is the number of wins each team will have. The sportsbooks will post a number and bettors can choose to bet over the number, meaning the team will win more games, or under the number, meaning the team will win fewer games than the number posted. All numbers are posted with the Money line so make sure you have an understanding of how that works.

Obviously, one of the important things to look at before placing these wagers is the strength of the division. A team will play six of its 16 games against these teams and those games can go a long ways in determing how many wins the team gets for the year.

Next, look at the team's non-division schedule. Are the toughest games on the home or the road? Do the tough games come right before or after one or two tough division games? Those are all factors that should come into play.

This article will look at the AFC teams. To see the NFC teams, click here.

AFC East

New England 11.5 Over -120, Under Even
New York Jets 9.5 Over -155, Under +135
Miami 7.5 Over +110, Under -130
Buffalo 5.5 Over -110, Under -110

While it's difficult to envision New England losing five or more games during the regular season, it's hard to wager over such a high total. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Jets right there with the Patriots and will have a medium play on over 9.5 wins for Rex Ryan and his gang. I hate to lay -155 on anything, but it seems justified in this case.

AFC North

Pittsburgh 10.5 Over -115, Under -105
Baltimore 10.5 Over -110, Under -110
Cleveland 6.5 Over -125, Under +105
Cincinnati 5.5 Over Even, Under -120

The AFC North figures to be a two-horse race between Pittsburgh and Baltimore and the season totals certainly reflect that. It's hard to see either team finishing worse than 4-2 in division play, so I would we tempted to lean to the over for both. Likewise, the bottom teams will have their hands full in the division and aren't likely to win more than two games. I would lean to both finishing under, but will have no plays here.

AFC South

Indianapolis 9.5 Over -125, Under+105
Houston 8.5 Over Even, Under -120
Jacksonville 6.5 Over +120, Under -140
Tennessee 6.5 Over -135, Under +115

It's hard not to see the Colts winning at least 10 games, given they should win four or five inside their division, so we'll have a small play on Peyton Manning and the boys to go over 9.5. On the other side of the equation, we'll also place a small under wager on the Titans, who stumbled badly down the stretch and made wholesale changes. I believe it will take a bit of time for all the new pieces to come together and the lockout didn't help.

AFC West

San Diego 9.5 Over -145, Under +125
Kansas City 7.5 Over -110, Under -110
Oakland 6.5 Over -145, Under +125
Denver 5.5 Over -125, Under +105

San Diego should pick up four or five wins in the division, so I definitely see them going over 9.5 and will have a medium-sized wager on the Chargers. The rest of the teams aren't separated that much and should pick up a few wins inside the division, but how many wins they will get on the outside remains to be seen.

Remember to shop as many different sportsbooks as you can to look for the best lines. The above lines are from The Greek. The great thing about the futures lines from The Greek is that they are the traditional 20-cent lines, while other sportsbooks tend to use a 30-cent or even 40-cent line on these types of wagers.
